RESULTS OF
THE DISTRICT 17
SPELLING BEE
Garfield Hts., Ohio - On March 2, 2008,
eighth grade students competed in the Union of Poles Division -
District 17 PNA Annual Spelling Bee. This activity was moderated
by Cheri Dzuro, Athletic Director and Teacher of Health and
Physical Education at James Rhodes High School. The three judges
were Rhonda Saegert, Principal of John Marshall High School,
Commissioner Frances Lisowski and newly elected Commissioner
Mark Relovsky. Contestants were nervous and parents,
grandparents and family were equally on edge as the contest
began. Larry Merryman was declared the winner, awarding him a
$200.00 Savings Bond and a trip for him and one parent to
Chicago to compete in the National Spelling Bee on April 19,
2008. Determining second place took a bit longer, but Kaitlin
Wieczorek outlasted the others earning her a $100.00 Savings
Bond. Placing third and the recipient of a $50.00 Savings Bond
was Rebecca Molnar. Josh Bodziony just missed cashing in on the
bonds finishing fourth. After this suspense filled event,
refreshments were served to everyone and the winners were
congratulated. All the students did a fine job and can be proud
of their accomplishments.
Larry was ecstatic, looking forward to his
first airplane ride. He will be spelling for an opportunity to
win $1,000.00, $500.00 or $250.00. A member of Lodge 16, Larry
has also participated in the Union of Poles Bowling League and
attends St. John Nepomucene School. GOOD LUCK IN CHICAGO
LARRY!!!
