THE 2009 PNA
NATIONAL SOFTBALL
TOURNAMENT
Battle Creek, Michigan - The Polish National
Alliance 2009 National Softball Tournament was held in Battle
Creek, Michigan on July 31 and August 1, 2009. Five teams from
Battle Creek, Michigan, Jackson, Michigan, Glassport,
Pennsylvania and Monessen, Pennsylvania participated in the
annual event.
Coaches met on Thursday evening at the Lodge
2416 Club to review the rules and set the agenda schedule for the
tournament. Vice President Paul Odrobina and National Secretary
Charles Komosa met and socialized with the team members who
attended the meeting.
The official start of the tournament was held
on Friday morning with the ceremonial first pitch, thrown out by
Vice President Paul Odrobina. An unofficial first inning took
place where National Secretary Charles Komosa batted, along with
Vice President David Milcinovic and Commissioner of District 8
Richard Tyszkiewicz, all three were thrown out before they
reached first base.
On Saturday after the final round of
softball, the Glassport, Pennsylvania team took the top honors.
Monessen. Pennsylvania finished second, Jackson, Michigan team 2
came in third. Batlle Creek and Jackson team 1, finished fourth
and fifth.
The awards banquet on Saturday evening took
place at the PNA 2416 club. Attending the awards banquet was
National Director Barbara Martin, and Commissioner of District
10 Edward Nizienski. They assisted Vice President Odrobina,
National Secretary Komosa, Vice President Milcinovic in
presenting the awards to Glassport (1st place), Monessen (2nd
place) and Jackson team 2 (3rd place) their plaques. The MVP was
Brian Pavlack from the Glassport team.
Vice President Odrobina and the PNA Sports
and Youth Committee would like to thank the members of Lodge
2416, especially Walter and Lee Ann Noga, and Bob Reichel for
all their help in making this years softball tournament a
success. Bids are still being accepted for lodges or councils to
host the 2010 National Softball Tournament.
