Stanislaw Rokosz

Term: 1901 - 1903

8th President of the Polish National Alliance

Born in Poland, Rokosz came to America from England in search of work in 1885. Active in the labor movement in Chicago, he helped organize a meatcutters' union and was president of one of its locals. Later he operated a restaurant.

Rokosz joined the PNA in 1889 and was an officer in Lodge 128 throughout his life. One of the organizers of the Dziennik Narodowy newspaper in Chicago (which served for several years as the daily of the Alliance before the PNA began its very own paper, Dziennik Zwlazkowy), Rokosz was elected vice president in 1899 and became president when Frank Jablonski resigned.

He was elected in his own right in 1901. During the wave of strikes that swept Chicago after the First World War, Rokosz was murdered, probably in connection with his labor activities.
