DETROIT'S
CARDINAL SZOKA CELEBRATES
40TH ANNIVERSARY
Detroit, Michigan - A week before our PNA
46th Quadrennial National Convention, Vice President Paul C.
Odrobina and his wife Janice had the distinction of representing
the Polish National Alliance at Edmund Cardinal Szoka's 40th
Anniversary to the Episcopacy. Cardinal Szoka is a personal
friend of the Odrobina's who officiated at their wedding. Janice
and Paul met at the Cardinal's investiture ceremony in Rome as
Pope John Paul II elevated the then Archbishop to the rank of
Cardinal. Paul had been the President of a group called the
Friends of the Archbishop. A group of Polish Americans
supporting our first ever Polish American Cardinal of Detroit.
In fact, their wedding was the first public wedding the Cardinal
celebrated before being appointed Vatican City's Prefecture, a
position similar to a Governor. This appointment came from our
beloved Pope John Paul II.
Paul was able to sign up our Cardinal Szoka
to the PNA as well as the PAC, Michigan Division. The Cardinal
has always been proud of his Polish Heritage as Polish songs
were included in his Anniversary Mass. Wishing Cardinal Szoka,
STO LAT!
