PNA MEMBER
PHIL SZPICKI WALKING FOR A CAUSE
Rockford, Illinois - PNA Member and retired
Chicago Police officer Phil Szpicki at age 70 is in the process
of walking to all three September 11th crash sites in
Shanksville, PA, Washington D.C. and and ending at Ground Zero
in New York City. His walk began in Rockford, Illinois on August
31, 2011 and as of September 29th (day the story was sent) was
presently in Ohio having completed approximately 400 miles of
the 1000 mile trip.
Phil's motivation first came from seeing
disturbing images on TV, showing wounded soldiers coming home.
Phil said, "You can't help but to cry, but when you see draped
coffins coming home or when you hear stories of soldiers who
have lost their limbs." He contemplated this project for almost
two years, while following an exercise and power walk regime.
After reading a newspaper article about a young man in the
Rockford area who came home from the war with no arms and legs,
this triggered Phil's plan of action. "This young man will never
walk again- Freedom isn't free - God has been generous enough to
give me this level of health at my age, and it's time to do
something positive with it."
Phil decided that the wounded warrior project
was a deserving and reputable organization, so we have partnered
with them for this journey. Phil hopes to bring attention to the
cause with his walk to raise money for this charity that
provides services to wounded veterans during their transition
from military to civilian life,
Donations can be made on the following

Phil is using his pension money for all his
expenses. All donations are sent directly to the wounded warrior
project. His site also has updates for people who wish to track
