FRANCES SYRK PASSES AWAY

Merrillville, Indiana - Frances C. Syrk of Merrillville, Indiana passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, October 11, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Syrk and infant son James. She is survived by her daughter Jane Ellen (Don) Newhouse of Florida. Frances is the grandmother of 3, Jennifer (Trent) Tipple, Melinda (Roy Godine) Newhouse and Derek (Amelia) Newhouse, and great-grandmother of 7.

Frances had become active in the Polish National Alliance for over 50 years. She was Financial Secretary of the "Madame Curie Circle" Lodge 3134 since 1955 and held the position of President of Council 127 from 1989 to 2005. She was a delegate to numerous PNA conventions and served on the audit committee. Frances was elected as Commissioner of District 15 in 1983 for two terms. She was honored by the PNA and District 15 many times for her work and insurance sales.

Besides the PNA, Frances was active in the Knights of Columbus Wives of Msgr. Ryder Council, Indiana PNA Camp, Inc., Polish Women's Alliance - Queen of Peace Group 815, Daughters of Isabella, and the Altar and Rosary Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation Church, all in Merrillville, Indiana.

Friends may pay the respects to Frances on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service - 6360 Broadway - Merrillville, IN., from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church - 8303 Taft St. - Merrillville, IN, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, IN.
