REPRESENTED AT SYRACUSE
POLISH HOME 90TH ANNIVERSARY
Syracuse, New York - Representatives from PNA
Lodges 271, 2517 and Council 44 attended the Syracuse Polish
Home's 90th Anniversary on Sunday, September 20, 2009.
The Syracuse Polish Home was founded in 1919 as a cultural
meeting place for Polish immigrants in Syracuse. Over the past
90 years, the Polish Home has served as a cultural hub for first
generation Polish immigrants and subsequently American citizens
of Polish decent. It started as a club and a community center,
and it still exists as such today. The neighborhood around the
Polish Home has diversified since its days as an enclave of
Polish immigrants of Syracuse's near West Side. The Polish Home
changed, too, adapting to meet the needs of the evolving greater
community while retaining its roots in Polish and
Polish-American culture. In 2009, many ethnic groups, religious
organizations and societies utilize the Polish Home. Presently
the Polish Home boasts of approximately 700 individual members
and serve to unite the Polish-American community with the more
recent Polish immigrants to promote our shared Polish heritage
with the surrounding community. The Polish Home strives to
uphold and promote the culture of our ancestors not only to our
future generations, but also to American society as a whole.
The representatives from the PNA included; Helen Bagenski, Helen
Lukasiewicz, Celine Pelc, Theresa Kociencki, Mania Gaske, Lottie
Starowicz, Genevieve Purchiaroni, Mary Bartkowski, Helen
Kowalczyk, Janet Cormier, and Stella Pilat. Other organizations
in attendance were the White Eagles, Sacred Heart Basilica
Choir, and Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. The Syracuse
PNA lodges and councils along with the Polish Home, have a long
history of working together to maintain our Polish Heritage. It
was an honor for us to celebrate this momentous anniversary
together with our Polish brothers and sisters. Sto Lat Dom
Polski! Submitted by:
