COMMISSIONER
JOSEPH T. SANOK JR. PASSES AWAY
Merrillville, Indiana - Former Commissioner
of District 15 Joseph Sanok Jr. passed away on Sunday, July 19,
2009 reaching the age of 85.
He
is survived by his wife of 58 years Helen (nee Kowalczyk), three
sons, Joseph T. (Lonnie) Sanok, III, Jeffrey (Dawn) Sanok, and
David (Amie) Sanok, seven grandchildren, Nisha, Brittney, Kyle,
Tyler, Alina, Joseph Sanok IV, and Nathan; sister Gladys (late
Calvin) Smith, three sister in laws Anne (late John) Potter,
Roseann (late Joseph) Chaney, Marie (late John) Kowalczyk.
Preceded in death by infant son Patrick John, parents Joseph Sr,
and Stefania Sanok, brother Adam Sanok, three sisters Sr. Mary
Eymard F.S.C., Marie Muraida and Genevieve Biedulewicz.
Joe was a member of SS. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church. He was a member and past President of (6 terms)
of PNA Silver Bell Club Lodge 2365 and was the club newspaper
editor. He was elected as PNA Commissioner of District 15 for
two terms from 1991 through 1999. He was a current Board member of the MCD
(Merrillville Conservatory District) for 30 years. Joe was a
World War II Army Veteran, having served in the southern
Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea, and received five Bronze
Stars for meritorious service. He was a member of the American
Legion Post 207. Joe was a retired machinist from American
Bridge, U.S. Steel Co. employed there for 38 years and worked
for Ogden Engineering. |
