THE PNA
CELEBRATES PACZKI DAY
Chicago, Illinois - Traditionally Lent
begins on Ash Wednesday, the Polish Community in the United
States celebrates Fat Tuesday
(Tuesday February 16th),
the day before by eating Paczki, a Polish Bismark pastry filled
with fresh fruit or jelly topped by either with powdered sugar
or a glaze icing.
The Polish National Alliance follows the
tradition and shares it with the people in Chicago. This year,
the PNA National Officers stood by the front gates of the PNA
Building and handed out Paczki to those driving down Cicero
Avenue for their morning commute. As autos stop by or pull into
the driveway, Mrs. Teresa Abick greeted the person giving them a
Paczki and PNA flyer in a plastic bag, free of charge. Throughout the morning,
over 2,000 Paczki were distributed to those willing to stop. The
local ABC television station covered the story as well as the
Polvision TV station.
President Frank Spula thanked Vice Presidents
Teresa Abick and Paul Odrobina, Secretary Charles Komosa and
Treasurer Marian Grabowski and the many employees who assisted
with this endeavor.
