LOUIS J.
SIOREK PASSES AWAY
Evergreen Park, Illinois - Louis J. Siorek
was born on April 1, 1919. He has been a member of the Polish
National Alliance since birth. Louis is the son of the late John
and Mary Siorek, with brothers and sister (late) Theodore,
(late) Leonard and (late) Genevieve Petri. They all were very
active as well in the PNA in their haydays.
In
1936, Louis was awarded a trip to Poland sponsored by the PNA.
He traveled on the Polish Liner "The MS Batory". He was elected
in 1935 Recording Secretary of the PNA Lodge 985 in
Council 39 Youth Club as served until World War II when the the
Lodge President was Mr. Felix Drabek. At the annual elections of
Lodge 2394 held on December 8, 1939, he was elected as the
lodge's Recording Secretary, the same time his father John
Siorek was the Lodge President. He held this office until 1962.
John Siorek was Lodge President and passed away while he
vacationed in his homeland Poland in July of 1962. Louis being
the Senior Lodge Officer was unanimously elected President and
held the position until his passing on January 18, 2011.
In 1940, Louis married Helen Wroblewski
(deceased in 1992). They had three children, Edward (deceased)
(Kathleen), Stanley (Christine) and Christine (Robert Doherty).
They have 6 grandchildren, Laura (John) Kargol, Mark, Lisa,
Cariann (Matt) Clark, Shari (Eric) Alt, and Nicholas (Karen)
Franks and 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Courtney Kargol,
Rowan Clark and Nathan Franks.
Louis was elected as Recording Secretary in
1955 to the Polish Social Club "Kwawaki" and held that position
for 40 years until the club was dissolved.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years, with
the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class with the Amphibious Fleet.
In 1957 being a "Vadal" Veteran, he was elected Commander of
Naval Post No. 372 of the American Legion and elected adjutant
in 1981 and Finance officer in 1983 and held both positions
until 2011. In 1959, he was awarded and inducted into the Honor
Society of the American Legion, known as "Voiture 1234" and
still was an active member.
In 1983, Louis was appointed and served as
Recording Secretary of PNA District 12 and was awarded the
"District 12 Man of the Year Award" (1983) for his many years of
service with the Polish National Alliance. He was a delegate to
six PNA Conventions and had the honor to serve as the Chairman
of the Pre-Convention Committee on Publication and
Communications for the 40th PNA Convention held in Chicago.
Since 2000, he also serves as Recording Secretary for the
District 12 PNA Youth Home Corporation, which awards
scholarships to worthy students in the District.
In 1982, he was elected as Recording
Secretary of Club Syren of Brighton Park (a Polish Social Club).
In 1990 the club President became ill and Louis took over as
President Protem and held the position until May of 1991, when
the club dissolved due to lack of volunteers to serve as club
officers.
In 2003, he was elected Adjutant in the Five
Holy Martyrs Post 500 Catholic War Veterans and served to this
date, and was elected Commander of Sherman Post No. 27 Polish
Legion of American Veterans in 2003. In 1984 he held the title
of Grand Knight of St. Augustine Aquinas No. 1089 of the Knights
of Columbus and held the position of 4 titles until the merging
with the St. Rita Council 2034 and was elected as Grand Knight
of the St. Rita Council.
