FORMER PNA NATIONAL SECRETARY
LOTTIE S. KUBIAK PASSES AWAY

Merrillville, Indiana - On June 11, 2011, former PNA Commissioner and National Secretary Lottie S. Kubiak passed away after a short illness. She was 92 years of age.

Early in her years, Lottie attended and graduated from St. Hedwig Parochial School and from Froebel High School. She then attended Indiana University majoring in Business and continued her courses at the Patricia Stevens Modeling and Secreterial School in Chicago. She worked at Linde Air adn Graham Lumber, later she became the Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of Environmental Control at U.S. Steel , Gary Sheet and Tin Mill for 20 years.

Lottie became active in the Polish National Alliance being the first President of the Madame Curie Circle Lodge 3134 in 1955 when the lodge was formed, and later became President again in 1960-1961, 1973-1975, and 2004 to present. She was lodge Vice President from 1986-1991 and Lodge Recording Secretary from 1994-2003. She was a delegate to PNA Council 127, and held offices, Vice President 1987-1988, Recording Secretary 1989-2005, and Treasurer 1963-1976. Mrs. Kubiak was elected as PNA Commissioner of District 15 for two consecutive four year terms from 1963-1971. After the passing of National Secretary Adolf Pachucki in 1975, she became the first woman elected to serve as National Secretary. She held that position from 1975 thru 1983. When she retired as Secretary, Lottie was presented the Gold Cross, Legion of Honor, the highest honor given in the PNA. Mrs. Kubiak still remained active with the PNA after her tenure as Secretary, continuing being elected as a delegate to many National Conventions, serving as Convention Secretary. 

Mrs. Kubiak along with her late husband Chester co-hosted a weekly hour long Polish language radio program on station WLTH 1370 AM in Gary, Indiana for 15 years.  She was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance Lodge 815 and Group 337 of the Polish Roman Catholic Union. Lottie was a past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella, Bishop Noll Circle #359 and a life time member of the Chopin Chorus.

Lottie was the daughter of the late Felix and Sophie Wawrzyniak, preceded in death by her husband Chester, sisters Marie Biernat, Regina Pundrich, Sally Sutherland, and Cecelia Sokolowski. She is survived by her sister Angeline Kubic and many nieces and nephews.
