FORMER PNA
COMMISSIONER AND
DIRECTOR MITCHELL JEGLIJEWSKI
PASSES AWAY
St. Louis, Missouri - The PNA Home Office
received news that former PNA Commissioner of District 11 and
Director Region "I", Mitchell Jeglijewski passed away. He was 94
years of age.
Mitchell
was one of four children of Mitchell and Elizabeth Jeglijewski
(who took residence in St. Louis when they emigrated from
Poland). He attended St. Casimir Catholic Grade School and later
graduated from Hedley Technical High School. He was an
apprentice as a tool and dye maker at Century Electric Company,
where he worked for 35 years. He served as Vice President of the
local AFL-CIO Union at Century for 20 years.
Mitchell met Laura Abrewczynski at St.
Casimir's and were married in 1942. They had four daughters,
Judith, Carol, Barbara and Patricia. He believed very much in
Education and made sure that each of the girls went to College.
Mitchell and Laura are proud grandparents of Jessica and Joanna.
Laura passed away in 1996. He was very active
with the Polish National Alliance, serving as Secretary of Lodge
1134 from 1952 through 2009. He also was active in his Council
and represented the Council for many PNA National Conventions.
In 1979, Mr. Jeglijewski was elected as Director of Region "I"
at a special election to replace Mrs. Stanislawa Nieder who
passed away that year. He served as Director until 1987.
During his tenure as Director, the PNA
National Directors was invited to the White House. When the
Secretary to the President of the United States called him with
the formal invitation, Mitchell thought it was a joke, and told
the Secretary "No Sh*t" and hung up on her. When PNA President
Mazewski called him asking if he swore at the Secretary of the
President, he was surprised that it was a real invitation. When
he went to Washington to meet with President Carter, his
Secretary wanted to meet Mitchell. They shook hands and he
apologized to her. He went again to the White House when Pope
John Paul II was in attendance and was greeted by President
George Bush. Mitchell was a Sales
Representative and was the top seller in his area for numerous
years. He has been honored by the PNA. Mr. Jeglijewski was also
very active in his church St. Stanislaw Kostka Story by:
