WEST END
PULASKI LODGE 1052
COMMUNION BREAKFAST
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - As West End
Pulaski Lodge 1052 is in their one hundredth year of existence,
there are many traditions that the lodge has, but not none more
important than the Easter Communion Breakfast. Gone are the
Sundays when members marched to Guardian Angels Church in a
group from the lodge. Since the closing of Guardian Angels
Church, the members travel to St. Stanislaus Church, located in
the Strip District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Father Harry
Nichols welcomed the members and their guests to the Mass which
was celebrated on Sunday, March 29, 2009. He congratulated the
members for continuing the tradition of the Easter Communion
Breakfast. Father Nichols introduced the following guests to the
congregation: from Cleveland, Ohio - PNA Union of Poles
Division, National Director Allan Szuflada and his wife Diane,
Commissioner of District 17 Frances Lisowski, former President
of the Polish Falcons Wallace Zielinski, the current President
of the Polish Falcons Tim Kuzma, District 8 Lady Commissioner of
PNA Irene Nickel, President of Lodge 1052 Val Pawlos and
National Director Joseph Kaminski.
After Mass, the members and guests proceeded
to the Lodge and enjoyed a delicious breakfast that was created
by Rockefeller's Catering and the sweet breads baked by member
John Schubert, with assistance by his wife Robin and niece Tracy
Smith.
The highlight of the breakfast has always
been the presentation of the Raymond Twardy Scholarship which
was awarded to the following students: Jessica Brooks, Jessica
Bogdan, Laura Crawford, Dominic DiPaulo, James Kaczorowski,
Thomas Kaczorowski and Jessica Lascola.
Brief comments were made by both Allan
Szuflada and Tim Kuzma, who emphasized the importance of
Frateralism among all Polish fraternals for the betterment of
Polonia. Val Pawlos announced that the lodge will be celebrating
their 100th anniversary on October 18th with a banquet at the
Radisson Hotel in Greentree. He also invited the members and
guests to inspect the remodeled bar area of the lodge.
At the conclusion of the breakfast, each
child attending received an Easter gift donated by the PNA Home
Office, Val Pawlos, Jeff Twardy and Joseph Kaminski.
A special "Bog Zaplac" to all the members and
their guests who make this annual event a rewarding experience.
