DISTRICT X CONVENTION AND
WOMEN'S DIVISION MEETINGS

Hamtramck & Battle Creek, Michigan - On Wednesday April 11, 2007, the PNA District X Women's Division held their Swiecona at PNA Council 122 in Hamtramck, Michigan. The election meeting began began at 3:00 p.m. with a moment of silence for our deceased members, including Virginia Pohasky whose entrance into eternal life was celebrated that same morning.

All of the incumbent officers were re-elected: Vice President: Christine Kryszko; Vice President: Bethany Stawasz; Recording Secretary; Gloria Platek; Corresponding Secretary; Debbie Stawasz; Treasurer: Jan Favot; Photographer; Jane Tylenda; Youth Director: Basia Gronet; Sergeant at Arms: Julie Solecki; Auditors: Basia Gronet, Francine Nizienski, Stella Szczesny; Flag Bearer: Lilliam Liddell. Congratulations to All!

Committee reports were given, and it looks like the upcoming season will be filled with many activities. Jan Favot volunteered to head a committee for the annual Labor Day Parade lunch provided by the Women's Division, while Debbie Stawasz and daughter Marie volunteered to once again head the committee for the annual Women's Division Hayride and Square Dance at the Real Life Farm. We will also be working with Stella Szczesny, President of Central Citizen's Committee to bring back the Polish Heritage Month's annual wreath laying ceremony, and with Victor Jiompkowski and PNA Lodge 1758 to host a memorial Mass and brunch in the fall. District X will also be represented at the Annual Polish American Baseball game at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers.

After the report of her successful young adult bowling event was ready, we were told about events Bethany Stawasz has planned for the young adults, including a miniature golf tournament. For information on any of the upcoming events, please contact Commissioner Barb Martin or any of the chair people mentioned.

District X has two dance groups who will be representing Michigan at the PNA National Jamboree in Connecticut. PNA Centennial Dancers of Lodge 53 and the Alliance Dancers of Lodge 2525 will board buses at the end of July to spend a long weekend dancing and socializing with students from PNA Lodges all over the United States. Good Luck to all!

The meeting was recorded by Debbie Stawasz in the absence of Gloria Plated who is recovering from hip replacement surgery. Best wishes for a speedy recover Gloria.

Dinner was prepared by Commissioner Barbara Martin, Treasurer Jan Fivot, Vice President Christine Kryszko and Donna. Dinner was served by Jessica Martin. Just as the meeting ended, Jessica was ready to announce that dinner was ready to be served; the electric power went out all over the city streets and including PNA Council 122's Hall. Basia Gronet and Stella Szczesny saved the dinner festivities by setting candles out between the White Lily plants and the red tulips. This turned out to be a wonderful candle light dinner, and the start of what could be a fun new tradition for future Women's Division meetings.

On May 19, 2007, District X held their annual convention at the PNA 2416 Hall in Battle Creek Michigan.

Commissioner Ed Nizienski appointed Mrs. Joan Baritche as recording secretary for the convention after which Commissioner Barbara Martin introduced our guests which included PNA National Secretary Z. John Ordon and Director Steve Tokarski.

Special recogition was given to Mrs. Jane Tylenda and Mr. John Grysiak as District X Woman and Man of the Year, who were presented with pieces of crystal from the PNA, as a tribute. These two outstanding individuals have spent many years actively promoting PNA and our fraternal activities. They have worked tirelessly to keep our Polish culture and heritage alive for our future generations.

A special "Thank You" goes out to PNA Lodge 2416 President Gordon Turner for the delicious breakfast and excellent luncheon. Mr. Turner and his fine group of people worked diligently to provide a delectable meal. Thank you also to Mr. Walter Noga and his wife Lee Ann for making all the arrangements to help this convention run smoothly.

Officers elected were: Vice President, Stella Szczesny, Secretary Joan Baritche, Treasurer, John Baritche, Sgt of Arms, Ron Martin, Auditors, Michael Ygeal and John Gresiak
